Indicators

This page presents graphically and in detail, the information contained in the OLAS databases related to access to water and sanitation in Latin American and Caribbean countries, based on the definitions used by the United Nations (UN).

OLAS is a platform that allows national government entities, strategic partners, research institutions, among other actors, to have available information from the water and sanitation sector related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This information can be used as input to calculate SDG indicators in each country. However, OLAS does not measure or monitor the SDGs.

The WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) uses two key indicators to determine access to water and sanitation:

• Indicator 6.1.1: Proportion of population with an improved drinking water source.

• Indicator 6.2.1: Proportion of the population with an improved sanitation facility.

Note: The metrics on this page come from the OLAS household survey dataset, which uses household surveys from countries throughout LAC to calculate each metric. As a result, the year of each data point varies depending on the year the household survey was carried out in each country.
