Information sources for the regional World Water Forum process

In order to support the countries of the region in improving the availability and quality of water and sanitation data in the countries of the region to serve as input for public policy decision-making, the development of sectoral documents and to encourage applied research. OLAS has supported the development of resources such as:

OLAS database

The OLAS database has data sets that explore various aspects of the water and sanitation sector, from water stress and risk to governance and inequality of access. A complete list of publicly available data sets is below:

Featured: OLAS/SCL W&S National Household Surveys The National Household Surveys dataset is generated from data from the National Household Surveys in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) with the objective of providing detailed information on access to water and sanitation in the region . The data set contains 47 indicators related to access to water and sanitation from 2003 to 2022. The data set is produced by the Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean on Water and Sanitation (OLAS) through a collaboration between the Social Division of the Inter-American Development Bank.

The dataset serves to address and expose data gaps, providing detailed information on access to water and sanitation for LAC countries that can be divided into several dimensions.

Regional Report VI LATINOSAN (2022)

The preparation of the regional report for the VI LATINOSAN began with the definition of the topics to be addressed and the structure in which they would be presented, based on the concept note prepared by the LATINOSAN Technical Secretariat and approved by the participating countries. The approach to each of the topics and structure were proposed by the team of the Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean on Water and Sanitation (OLAS), in charge of preparing the report, to the LATINOSAN Pro Tempore Executive Secretariat and the focal points. Once the proposal was approved, it was developed.

For each topic of the report, the existing sources of information were identified, based on the information uploaded on the OLAS platform and that generated and compiled by the organizations that have participated in the development of the topics at the global and regional levels. We also sought the collaboration of the various organizations identified to develop or complement specific topics of the report.

Executive Summary of the Regional Report (VI LATINOSAN)

Another product generated by OLAS within the framework of the VI LATINOSAN is the executive summary of the regional report, which consolidates the most important information contained in the aforementioned document.

Country profiles (Regional Report)

Based on the information available° for the preparation of the regional report and its executive summary, fact sheets were prepared for each of the 33 countries in the region°° . The sheets were sent for validation and completion by the OLAS focal points in each of the countries.

° OLAS databases and various official sources in each country. °° LATINOSAN is an open process for the participation of all countries in the LAC region. There are 33 sovereign countries in the region, all members of the United Nations (UN). There are also 17 territories in the region that are dependent on other countries. However, LATINOSAN focuses primarily on the 33 sovereign countries, although the report includes some general data on the dependent territories.

Country Pages (OLAS)

On the other hand, the OLAS platform has country pages with specific information and data for each of the countries, such as: socio-demographic data, data on access to water and sanitation°, water resource management°° and water and sanitation management°°°.

° Disaggregated by quintile and zone. °° With information on water availability, water stress and wastewater treatment. °°° With information on institutional framework, regulatory framework, and national sectoral plans and programs.
